Every year for more than a decade, Brovedani has been keeping a classic appointment with the “culture of technology” by devoting its calendar to a major figure in science and technology in Italy, and in other areas as well. Significant forays are made into the fields of exploration and art, from Archimedes to the Boys from the Via Panisperma, from Girolamo Cardano to Guglielmo Marconi, from Luigi Galvani to Leonardo da Vinci - just to name a few of the names that have been featured. The spirit of these monographs is to shed light on an unfamiliar aspect of what Italy has brought to the world, in order to show that we contribute more than just our artistic creativity. In a literary presentation that parallels the Brovedani experience, the calendar presents the most significant moments in the life and work of great personalities.

The luminary featured in the 2007 Calendar is Antonio Meucci, the inventor who died in poverty in 1889 in New York after a dispute with Alexander Graham Bell over the paternity of the telephone - the invention of the century. The content of this calendar is extremely accurate from the historical-scientific standpoint, thanks to invaluable material furnished by engineer Basilio Catania, the world’s foremost expert on Meucci, who has brought the merits of the genius from Florence to worldwide attention. In 2002, one of his studies (which required more than ten years of shuttling between Florence, Havana and New York) led to United States Congress Resolution 202, the official document which recognizes that Antonio Meucci was first to invent the telephone. The Resolution restored scientific stature to the great Italian inventor, and the Brovedani calendar is intended to contribute further to this deserved recognition.
